Impotence Will Destroy a
Marriage, and Other ED Myths
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition
wherein the male has difficulty in sustaining an erection,
hence difficulty in having intercourse. This may be caused by
health factors such as stress, diabetes, and heart problems.
There are those among us who get their facts straight about ED
and understand it, by asking a physician and reading relevant
material on it. However, there are a few people who totally
fear impotence or Erectile Dysfunction (ED) for all the wrong
reasons. Here are some myths and the truths behind
them.
Marriage Goes Bye-Bye
When a man experiences ED, will this destroy
a relationship? It should be understood by many that intimacy
is only one factor that determines a long-lasting relationship.
Initial reactions by women when her partner has ED include
feelings of guilt and blaming herself. The same goes with the
man. ED will only be a hindrance to a marriage if both persons
do not communicate toward a solution. Marriage experts say that
working together to battle ED, now that there are many options
for treatment, will actually be a means to strengthen a
relationship.
ED Drugs are only for Severe
ED
Most of us think that if a man without ED
uses a drug like Viagra, it’s not good for his health. A story
that once leaked on the internet was about a man in his 30’s
who bought Viagra off the black market, even if he wasn’t
impotent. He had an erection that lasted for three days, and
doctors had to use syringes to drain out the blood from his
penis. Creepy as the story may sound, Viagra generally does not
pose a risk for younger men, with ED or without. In fact, men
below the age of 40 use Viagra as a recreational drug, to help
them have prolonged erections, but not necessarily to improve
sexual performance.
I’m Aging, so I’m Bound to Get
ED
Age is only one common trait shared by men
experiencing ED, but it is not the main cause of it. Only a
small number of men over the age of 70 experience severe ED. In
most cases, mild impotence goes with age, not that it isn’t
treatable. Again, ED is caused by other things such as alcohol,
stress, and other health complications.
If Viagra Didn’t Work, Nothing
Will
Viagra was claimed by many to be a wonder
drug, but mainly for commercial reasons. It is only one of
hundreds of ED treatments available. Men who use Viagra for the
first time and got no results usually have the notion that it
will never work. In some cases, Viagra needs to be taken more
than once before it works right. There are dosages that
physicians recommend depending on the current health state of
the patient. Aside form that, Viagra can be taken after a meal,
and preferable an hour to half an hour before sex. An erection
will only occur with stimulation, so don’t expect it to stand
up instantly after popping the pill.
One of the first steps in overcoming ED is
to understand it. These myths will do nothing to help solve the
condition. The right decisions involve consulting a physician
and doing a lot of reading on the matter. There are books and
information resources available online, and they really are a
big help in knowing ED well.
